Areas of Opportunity
I help patients that have complications. We provide them with groceries, along with things like nutrition education. I have a really joyful feeling inside whenever anyone steps through my door and I know that I can actually provide them with a positive impact, not just for their health but for their life as well.
What brought me to MetroHealth is the community. I love helping people. I want to be a change agent. I am proud to be part of an organization that has said we want to be a part of the change, we want to educate our employees and put them in a position so we can all learn together to address our biases.
Having the opportunity here to assist patients with a similar background to mine and helping them receive the care that they need, it’s a wonderful thing and definitely something I wanted to be a part of. Being able to see those gaps in communication – and bridging those gaps – it's a really wonderful job.
Throughout my career, I’ve tried to include the perspectives of people with spinal cord injuries. That makes my work better. I love that I am able to do things that can help many people. Having a spinal cord injury myself and being a scientist, I know that I can have a broader impact than most people.
I wanted to work at the jail, and MetroHealth was hiring a dental hygienist. You get to build relationships and you mean something to somebody who’s in a really dark time. The culture of the medical staff here is filled with people who truly care. Everybody wants to help the people here, and I like being one of those helpers.
