Primary skills utilized/learned:

• Utilizes ultrasound equipment to perform a variety of diagnostic medical sonograms to aid in the diagnosis of disease in neonates through adult patients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Meets one of the following criteria:

-Graduate of an accredited Radiology (ARRT) program with an advanced certification in Sonography

-Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and possesses the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with specialties in Abdomen (AB), or Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN)

  • Registration in the following specialties must be obtained within 1 year of employment: ARDMS RVT or ARRT Sonography and Vascular Sonography.
  • Exception: Breast Center only technologists are required to obtain ARDMS BR within 1 year of employment in place of RVT
  • Valid BLS Certification from the AHA or obtains within the standard probationary period.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds


Required Qualifications - OB/GYN:

  • Registry-eligible with the ARDMS, including completing a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography training program.
  • Must possess a RDMS credential from ARDMS with a specialty in Obstetrics within 6 months of employment.
  • Must possess or obtain within 12 months of employment one or more OB-specific certifications including the Nuchal Translucency (NT) from the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) or Nuchal Translucency Quality Review (NTQR).

Physical Requirements:

  • May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
  • May need to lift, pull or push over 50 lbs.
  • May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
