Obesity Medicine Faculty Opportunity for an Internist in the Weight Management Clinic of MetroHealth's Weight Loss Surgery and Weight Management Center

MetroHealth's Weight Loss Surgery and Weight Management Center is seeking a full-time faculty member boarded in Internal Medicine, and boarded or committed to obtaining board certification in Obesity Medicine to join their team of four physician Obesity Medicine specialists and three advanced care providers. The MetroHealth Weight Management Clinic, founded in 2004, is an innovative clinic in an academic public hospital affiliated with Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. The Weight Loss Surgery team includes two metabolic bariatric surgeons and the center is accredited under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program in Adult Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Obesity Medicine.

Duties for this 1.0 FTE will include 9 clinical half-day sessions in the MetroHealth System's ambulatory locations. This faculty member will be required to achieve and maintain continuing medical education as required by the American Board of Obesity Medicine as well as maintaining certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine. She/he will be active in the clinical management of patients with obesity in all stages. Clinical assessment and management will include: basic behavioral and pharmaceutical treatment; management of medical co-morbid conditions related to obesity; preparation of candidates for bariatric for surgery; and long-term post-surgical follow-up for those who have had weight loss surgery. Like all faculty members in the Center, she/he will supervise and provide support for the nurse practitioner staff in Weight Management Clinic. She/he will provide supervision and teaching for resident physicians and medical students who have clinical rotations in the Weight Management Clinic. Participation in ongoing clinical research and outcomes work is expected in the form of gathering patient data and patient recruitment as opportunities allow. Program development initiative is welcomed and encouraged. The candidate will have an appointment in the Division of Internal Medicine and complete the appointment process with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine at the assistant professor level or higher.

If the candidate has limited or no prior clinical experience in Obesity Medicine, there will be intensive mentored training provided by the medical director and other practitioners during the first year to insure development of clinical skills and knowledge.

Required Qualifications: MD or DO; Ohio State Medical license; Board Certification with the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Family Medicine; commitment to obtaining board certification in Obesity Medicine within two years of hire. In addition, the candidate must have a passionate commitment to the treatment and advocacy of patients struggling with the chronic disease of obesity.

Preferred: Current certification by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, additional current board certification by the American Board of Pediatric Medicine, and clinical experience treating patients for obesity. In addition, fluency in Spanish is also preferred.
