Toxicology Specialist - Pathology Core Lab
Location: METROHEALTH MEDICAL CENTER
Biweekly Hours: 40.00
Shift: Five 8 hour M-F shifts /pay period, as scheduled. Evening shift (2p-11:30p)

Summary:
Under minimal technical supervision, provides technical expertise in the performance/oversight of the preparation/processing of non-medical and/or forensic toxicology specimens for both screen and confirmatory analysis. Ensures all testing performed adheres to departmental guidelines, safety/regulatory requirements, and quality control standards. Identifies and recommends improvements in operating procedures. Assists in the training of laboratory staff and residents. Cooperates with a diverse group of people at varying skill levels while performing daily operational tasks. Upholds the standards of the system-wide customer service program and departmental policies.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's of Science degree in Forensic Toxicology from an accredited institution, OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below. Meets one of the following: • 2 years of recent work experience in a non-medical or forensic toxicology laboratory as either an Analyst, Specialist, or Manager. • Has completed at least a 1 year internship/project in a Forensic environment during the fulfillment of academic requirements. Experience with set-up, implementation, validation, and analysis of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). Knowledge of and experience with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements related to the collection, storage, and chain-of-custody documentation for specimens. Experience with laboratory equipment and computer systems. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred: Certified as a Medical Technologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (MT/ASCP). Experience with Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (either LC-MS or LC-MS/MS), including operating/maintaining equipment, validating data, and troubleshooting. Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Requires some exposure to chemicals.
