Chaplain - Spiritual Care

Biweekly Hours: 72.00

Shift: Mon-Thurs 8a-4:30p, Fri 8a-12p

Summary:


Functions by virtue of his/her call to ministry endorsed by his/her religious denomination or faith group to provide for the emotional and spiritual support of patients/families/employees of The MetroHealth System through listening, counseling, prayer, and conducting religious faith-based/sacramental services. Ministers to people of all faith traditions. Acts as an integral part of the health care team, including interacting with nursing, medical, and support staff to ensure that the appropriate levels of service are met/delivered in a timely manner. Assists with the planning/implementation of services that provide spiritual/charitable support to the organization and community. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's Degree (e.g. Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Theology (MTh), etc.) from an accredited theological seminary or university in theology or divinity or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below.
  • Certified Chaplain by the Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc. (BCCI) through the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or a similar group, or obtains certification within 2 years of hire.
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement (e.g. Ordination, Commissioned, or Licensed) by a faith denomination or church.
  • Successfully completed 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)-approved training site.
  • Experience as a Chaplain in a health care pastoral care program.
  • Basic knowledge of current medical/ethical concerns.
  • Ability to minister to people of all ages.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to relate to people of all faiths/those with no religious affiliation.
  • Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.


Preferred:

  • Fluency in writing, speaking, and interpreting both English and Spanish.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills.


Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
