Summary:


Responsible for decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and storage of all general surgical instrumentation, supplies, and linen primarily for the operating room and labor and delivery. Maintaining optimal functioning of all sterile processing equipment with special attention to the sterilizers. Maintaining the cleanliness of patient equipment for hospital use. Providing service to all hospital departments utilizing reprocessed and/or sterilized instrumentation, supplies, and patient care equipment. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required: High school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam. Possesses one of the following: • Medical instrument processing experience with one year of Central Service hospital experience. • Graduate of an accredited sterile processing program with a C or better average. • Medical instrument processing experience and currently enrolled as a student in an accredited sterile processing program with a C or better average (Note: Continued employment is contingent on graduation from the sterile processing program with a C or better average). Certification by a national agency in sterile processing within 9 months of employment. Good communication skills and phone etiquette. Ability to work independently and self-guided with a strong attention to detail. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred: Basic PC skills. Experience with materials management and/or operating room information systems. Medical terminology. Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Ability to push/pull 350 pounds. Ability to lift 35 pounds. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Requires some exposure to chemicals.
