As the site of the county's most experienced Level I Adult Trauma Center and accommodating a total of more than one million patient visits annually, MetroHealth is an academic medical center for teaching and research and is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Orthopedics Hand and Upper Extremity team. As PA, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive patient care under the supervision of orthopedic physicians. You will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of orthopedic conditions, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in orthopedics, demonstrate exceptional clinical skills, and be committed to delivering compassionate care.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Assessment and Examination:
- Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including medical history reviews, physical examinations, and assessments of orthopedic conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRIs, and laboratory tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Collaborate with orthopedic physicians to formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Treatment and Intervention:
- Perform non-surgical interventions, such as joint injections, splinting, casting, and wound care, in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
- Provide patient education on treatment options, including surgical and non-surgical approaches, to help patients make informed decisions regarding their care.
- Assist in surgical procedures, including pre-operative evaluations, intraoperative support, and post-operative management.
- Prescribe medications, physical therapy, and other treatments as appropriate, ensuring adherence to evidence-based guidelines and patient-specific needs.
- Care Coordination and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with orthopedic physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
- Monitor patient progress, track outcomes, and adjust treatment plans accordingly to optimize patient recovery and functional outcomes.
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and ancillary services, ensuring seamless transitions in care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and promote best practices.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records, documenting patient encounters, assessments, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Adhere to legal and ethical standards, maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy in all aspects of practice.
- Complete required administrative tasks, such as coding and billing documentation, in compliance with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
Required Credentials:
- Graduate of an accredited masters degree Physician Assistant (PA) program
- Nationally certified through NCCPA
- Licensure for PAs: Hold a license as a PA through the State Medical Board of Ohio.
- Eligible for federal DEA registration.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or obtains within 90 days of hire.
- Meets the requirements/qualifications for clinical privileges in the specialty/department with The MetroHealth System and must report to Medical Staff Office at time of hire to apply for clinical privileges.
- Maintains a standard care arrangement or supervision agreement and renews/signs it as required by the Ohio State Medical Board.
- Note: Other department specific qualifications for providers will be addressed through the Certificate of Authority and credentialing process.
