Summary:


Performs a variety of Anatomic and Surgical Pathology functions of various complexities, under the direction and supervision of the Pathologist, following procedural guidelines and professional standards. Ensures all activities performed adhere to departmental guidelines, safety and regulatory requirements, and quality control standards. Contributes to the overall efficiency of Anatomic Pathology. Identifies and recommends improvements in operating procedures. Provides training to laboratory staff and residents. Cooperates with a diverse group of people and skill levels in performing daily operational tasks. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, nursing, or other science field related to pathology, such as mortuary science.
  • Meets one of the following:
• Current certification as a Pathologists' Assistant PA(ASCP) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
• Presents proof at the time of job application in the form on an Admission Notice from the ASCP that an application and eligibility documentation have been submitted and approved for PA(ASCP) examination scheduling. (NOTE: Must provide official notification to The MetroHealth System of a passing score on the PA(ASCP) examination within 1 month of the ASCP's Admission Notice expiration date.)

  • Detail-oriented with excellent skills in analysis.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred: Master of Pathology Assisting Physical Demands: May need to move around intermittently during the day, including sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and ambulating. May need to remain still for extended periods, including sitting and standing. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to read job related documents. Ability to use computer.
